I come to this venue as a professionally trained musician who worked for many national acts and then went out on his own as an independent artist. I come from a world where traditional skills mattered. (Reading music, writing charts, practicing the craft for many hours a day.) So that right there lets you date me with about 95% certainty. Final hint: the age right before loops, Auto-Tune and Torrents.

There is a great and ongoing mythology of the independent artist and if nothing else, I hope these pearls of wisdom give at least some insight into the possibility of being creative (and eating) in a world where the traditional music biz has broken down and it's now pretty much every man for itself.
